At the 2024 Victorian Museums and Galleries Awards, the premier awards in Victoria for arts and culture, the Melbourne Holocaust Museum (MHM)’s Hidden: Seven Children Saved exhibition was announced the winner of the Large Project of the Year. The judges said the exhibition “offers a beautifully designed, compelling experience for ages 10 and up”. “Through innovative storytelling and immersive elements, it creates a meaningful, interactive journey.
” The exhibition engages visitors with Holocaust survivors’ stories, making it especially relevant and impactful for younger audiences. Its success is reflected in the positive feedback it has received from students and teachers, showcasing it as an age-appropriate, emotionally engaging museum experience. MHM CEO Dr Steven Cooke said, “Hidden is truly groundbreaking in its approach to helping young people learn about the Holocaust and its continued relevance.
“Through the personal experiences of Holocaust survivors Paul Grinwald, Halina Zylberman, Sonia Kempler z”l, Joe de Haan z”l, Floris Kelman z”l, Henri Korn and John Lamovie it inspires visitors with stories of courage, resilience and hope.” The MHM extended its gratitude to the Gandel Foundation and Claims Conference for funding the exhibition. The Victorian Museums and Galleries Awards acknowledge and highlight outstanding achievements across the museum, gallery and community collecting sector.
