ESPN college football analyst Greg McElroy recently spoke on his "Always College Football" podcast , sharing a few teams that he believes should panic or have patience in their current situation After sharing his insight on some of the biggest games from Week 4, which included Michigan's victory over USC, Tennesse knocking off Oklahoma, and Utah stomping on Oklahoma State on the road, McElroy honed in on one program. He believes the Volunteers, after dominating Oklahoma on both ends the ball and winning 25-15, are a surefire national title contender. McElroy doesn't feel the same way about the Sooners.

He's worried about the OU quarterback room, especially with former five-star prospect Jackson Arnold. He thinks it's time to panic with Oklahoma, given their struggles on the offensive end and the loss of confidence from Arnold. "Time to panic or patience with Oklahoma and their quarterback situation?" McElroy said.

"I think it's time to panic. What I've seen from Jackson Arnold, he's not playing winning football right now. Maybe the weight of the world is too heavy on his shoulders right now.

" Arnold was previously rated as the No. 4 quarterback and No. 10 overall player in the class of 2023, but there have certainly been some growing pains for the first-year starter in 2024.

Brett Davis-Imagn Images In the Sooners' loss to the Volunteers, Arnold recorded 54 passing yards and one interception, completing 7-of-16 pass attempts. The 6-foot-1 signal caller was benched in the matchup against Tennessee. Brent Venables and the OU staff pulled Arnold late in the first half after a couple of costly turnovers.

During the first half of the primetime game, Arnold fumbled on a first-and-goal at the Tennessee five-yard line, giving up a massive opportunity for the Sooners. He also threw a misplaced ball in the second quarter that was ruled a lateral pass and recovered by the Volunteers. Heading into the game, Arnold led the Sooners to a 3-0 record with wins over Tulane, Houston and Temple.

Prior to his performance against Tennessee, Arnold recorded seven touchdowns and two interceptions, passing for 484 yards. The young quarterback was replaced by Michael Hawkins, who ended the game with one touchdown and 132 passing yards, completing 11-of-18 pass attempts. Venables and the OU staff have a major decision to make, but with Arnold, who was supposed to be their quarterback of the future, getting benched, McElroy already thinks it's time to panic for the Sooners.
