Reiss Greenidge is hoping to finish the season on a high at Maidstone after disappointment on the international stage. Greenidge’s Guyana team missed out on qualification for the Gold Cup after a 4-3 aggregate defeat by Guatemala. The Stones defender played 90 minutes in both games as Guyana won the home leg 3-2, only to lose 2-0 in the return.

“It was a bit gutting because we wanted to get to the Gold Cup this year, so we’ll have to wait another couple of years,” he said. “We got there a few years ago, so we really wanted to try and push to get there again. “I think we were just unlucky.

” Greenidge, whose brother Jordan is interested in joining him in the national team, returned to the UK after winning his 12th cap. He travelled with the Maidstone squad to Weston last weekend but didn’t make the bench for the 3-0 National League South defeat. George Fowler and Temi Eweka have formed a strong partnership in central defence but Greenidge is ready to play if needed as United bid to secure a play-off place.

He also gives Stones manager George Elokobi a good option should he revert to a back three. “The team’s been doing well so it’s a case of waiting to get back in,” said Greenidge. “I’ll try and get back in.

I’m there to help the team if they need me.” Maidstone are seventh - the final play-off spot - going into their home game against relegated Weymouth this Saturday (3pm). They’re only a point of clear of Weston, in eighth, so there’s work to be done.

“It’s so tight up there,” said Greenidge. “No one’s really taken charge but hopefully we can. “We’ve got four big games to come and we need four wins.
