A great-grandmother was left unable to lift the newest generation of her family after suffering life-changing injuries in a crash on the A47. Tracey Webb suffered a severed artery in her wrist when she was a passenger in a crash along the main road and was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital . The 58-year-old family matriarch was treated by the trauma team at the Norfolk and Norwich Orthopaedic Centre (NaNOC), which had opened just a matter of weeks before the crash.
It was feared she may lose her hand altogether as a result of the crash in September, but consultants were able to save it by inserting metal rods and plates in her arm. And her family is so grateful to the hospital unit for its support that they have raised more than £5,000 to gift back to the department.
Mrs Webb, from Whittington, who has four children, 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren - with a third on the way - said: "I'm so grateful to the trauma orthopaedic consultants Christopher Ingham and Ken Wong, who were able to save my hand. "I can't work anymore and I can't lift my great granddaughters up, but I'm having physio every week and am so thankful for everything the team has done. "My granddaughter was also in the car and suffered bruising from the seatbelt, but it could have been so much worse.
" Her family runs Fendick's Fishery near Thetford , and its onsite restaurant Hubbles. Its customers have helped to raise a total of £5,246 for the NaNOC unit. Her daughter, Lisa Webb, said: "We are so grateful to all our customers and supporters at Fendick's Fishery and Hubbles who have donated, bought tickets, attended events, shaved heads and so many other things to help raise money.
"Everyone knows mum as she worked with us, so people were so generous in their support and I would like to thank every single person.".
