Every hostelite has a tale to narrate irrespective of their ages. Either it’s a failed prank or a successful one. These pranks told, retold and savoured, more so in class reunions or friendly get-togethers.
Nostalgia need not be painful, but enjoyable too. Most of these pranks are harmless ones, meant to elicit a chuckles or a loud guffaw. Perhaps sometimes to get even with a fellow boarder or warden, who is not liked or with someone to settle a long pending score.
But in the end, it’s all meant for humour. After all what’s hostel life without a few pranks to remember and narrate? But this current episode reported from a hostel in a reputed college purportedly in New Delhi (Yes. We are withholding the college name and you know why!) takes the cake.
It may not strictly fall into the category of a prank, but nevertheless, this episode will be told, retold a million times in the times to come. So here goes the story! We have this young lady boarder of a hostel. We do not know how strict was the security at the women’s hostel or whether the hostel managers were treating their subjects like prisoners prompting one of the inmates to attempt a ‘Great Escape’.
We do not know whether it was planned by her accomplice, stated to be a man or the boarder herself in question, but the escape plan appeared to be meticulous, until the security smelt a rat. The girl inmate hid herself in a suitcase (of the size used by US bound students to pack things in check-in baggage) and apparently the suitcase was being wheeled out of the hostel. We are not sure whether the girl got claustrophobic and screamed or she screamed when the suitcase hit a bump, but the security closed in like a peregrine falcon swooping down to clutch a fish which just touched the water surface.
In a jiffy, the suitcase was unzipped and voila! The woman in question steps out, albeit red-faced. And here comes the strange part. Someone video recorded the entire episode on a phone and posted it on Reddit.
