Better World Studios presents Faces and Figures, a dynamic and interactive art exhibition that will be held over three consecutive Saturdays in April. An artist reception to celebrate the opening exhibit will take place from 5-7 p.m.
Friday, April 11. It is open to the public and there is no cost for admission. Donations are appreciated.
Artists will exhibit their work and demonstrate their skills in creating portraits and figurative art from 11 a.m. to 3 p.
m. on Saturday, April 12. “This event is an opportunity for the public to see local artists create works in the moment,” said Sally Donovan, exhibit coordinator.
"All our visitors may participate in having their portraits painted as well as enjoy workshop presentations by joining in.” Demonstrating artists include: Bill Daniel, Rich Klein, Andrew Murphy, Mary Ann Brock, AC Daniel and Susan Pickett. In addition, the works of Sally Donovan, Amy Ness and Joya DiStefano will be on display.
Artist demonstrations will be repeated on April 19 and 26. Weaving and other fiber arts demonstrations will take place on the third floor of Better World Studios each Saturday. “Visitors are invited to observe, learn and participate in the world of modern fiber arts in this inviting setting, that once offered a community of local textile workers a place to congregate and share the value of their work,” said weaving instructor Don Mosser.
In addition to the main gallery exhibit and fiber arts demonstration, a Youth Workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.
m. Saturday, April 19. “The Youth Workshop will offer young people ages 5-12 a creative opportunity to explore a variety of images recognized in the Faces and Figures around them,” said art instructor and workshop chair Amy Ness.
Concluding this lineup of events is the Graniteville Fishing Rodeo which will be held on the canal adjacent to Better World Studios. It is sponsored by Graniteville Community Services and the GVW Fire Department, and will take place beginning at 9 a.m.
Saturday, April 26 on Canal Street. This free event is for anglers of every age. Its scenic location offers an exciting community family experience, that includes an abundance of fish waiting to be caught.
Experts will be on hand to trouble shoot as well as offer tips on fishing techniques. Better World Studios is located at 125 Marshall St., Graniteville.
It is a nonprofit multipurpose community arts facility located in the historic Hickman Hall. Its mission is to foster creative community through the arts offering private artist studio rentals, public gallery and exhibition space, artist-led workshops and more.
