From motorcycles to music, side-splitting comedy and theatrical productions to major golf events, it’s all going on our neck of the woods. You just need to know where to look.

MYRTLE BEACH – On the Grand Strand, springtime is known as a shoulder season. With fewer crowds and milder weather, it’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy all the area has to offer without the fever pitch of what is historically referred to as “the season,” which runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day. No matter the time of year, there’s always something fun to do here – and this month is no exception.

From motorcycles to music, side-splitting comedy and theatrical productions to major golf events, it’s all going on our neck of the woods. You just need to know where to look. From the fertile imagination of beloved author Roald Dahl – the same guy who gave us Willy Wonka – "Matilda" is the story about a young girl neglected and mistreated by her parents, to the point where they refuse to enroll her in school and force her to instead watch mindless television shows.

Later, her father puts her in a school run by a tyrannical and sadistic principal named Agatha Trunchbull. Thank goodness, though, for the kindness of Matilda’s teacher, Miss Honey, who protects her and makes her life a bit more bearable. Along the way, Matilda discovers that she can wield astounding telekinetic powers.

A film version of "Matilda" emerged in 1996, based on Dahl’s novel. Now you can enjoy a stage adaptation right here in Myrtle Beach. From April 16 – May 4, Long Bay Theatre presents "Matilda: The Musical" at the DreamHouse Theatre inside the Myrtle Beach Mall.

Opening night tickets are $56 and include a champagne post-show reception. Otherwise, tickets range from $22-$42. To grab yours and for showtimes and details about Long Bay Theatre, visit www.

From April 29 – May 3, catch comedian Jeff Norris – a favorite in Atlantic City and Las Vegas, as he plies his brand of quick-witted repartee, barely taking a breath as he tears through his sets.

Norris has appeared in television and film roles, notably HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" and "OZ," stints on "Good Morning America" and more. Also on the bill: Johnny Watson, whose comedy draws on his hard-knock life – a heroin-addicted father, an apathetic mother and his early struggles with alcoholism.
