FAIRFIELD — A grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for May 12 at the all-inclusive playground at Allan Witt Community Park. The event will run from 3 to 6 p.m.
"This transformative project redeveloped approximately 3 acres of the park, adding accessibility upgrades, new amenities, and improved infrastructure," the city said in a statement. Key enhancements include: • A gateway entry arch that welcomes visitors to the new space. • Upgraded paths, roads, parking, fencing, landscaping, and irrigation.
• Picnic areas and shaded shelters. • A prefabricated restroom building. • Custom play structures for ages 2–5 and 6–12.
• Inclusive play features like a sensory dome, multiple swing types, and sign language and braille panels. “We’re bringing something special to Allan Witt,” said Mayor Catherine “Cat” Moy. “I grew up playing here, so seeing it transformed into a space where all kids can play and feel included means a lot.
This playground is fun and welcoming, and I hope everyone will enjoy it.” "The event will feature music, refreshments, and family-friendly activities. The Parks & Recreation Department will be onsite with their Fun on the Run truck, offering interactive games and entertainment for kids of all ages," the statement said.
