Surat: The convocation ceremony of the leading Sarvajanik University in South Gujarat was held today, with Dr Pankaj Joshi present as the chief guest. The event took place on the university campus, where 1,318 students received their degrees. Addressing a large gathering of students at the 3rd convocation of Sarvajanik University, India's renowned astrophysicist Dr Pankaj Joshi advocated for a significant fund allocation by the govt for research and development in our country.

"Even after gaining freedom two years later than India, China is competing with the United States of America (USA) and other countries when it comes to Research and Development (R&D). The AI model China launched recently is the biggest example of this, as many companies in the USA were shaken by it. This was possible because China allocates 5% to 6% of its GDP to research," he said at the event.

Dr Joshi also emphasised happiness over success to the students who will be aspiring for their careers after receiving their degrees. "You should decide what success means to you. Whether it is a palatial bungalow or a luxurious car, you should define what success is to you.

I believe instead of success, you should aim for happiness because happiness includes success, but success does not include happiness. You may not be happy even if you have a luxurious mansion," he advised students, stressing that they should develop a research attitude in their lives. University registrar Dr Ashish Desai said: "A total of 1,318 students from 37 different undergraduate, postgraduate, and postgraduate diploma courses were awarded degrees this year.

" Dr Farooq Patel, chairman and managing director of the KP Group of Companies, provided guidance on how students can contribute to national development, particularly in the field of unconventional energy. Additionally, philanthropist and enterprise voyager Mr. Rajen Shah spoke to students about developing their inner strengths.

On this occasion, university president Bharat Shah and provost Dr Kiran Pandya also delivered speeches and inspired the students. Earlier, on Feb 19 and 20, cultural and carnival events were organized, with participation from over 8,000 students from eight affiliated colleges. The main attraction of the event was the SUMUN activity, where students presented a Model United Nations, engaging in debates and proposing solutions on various global issues.
