Gov't agencies discuss ways to foster drone ecosystem

The state arms procurement agency and the national space agency held talks Wednesday to discuss ways to promote the local drone industry, officials said, as Korea seeks to strengthen its prowess to develop the cost-effective weapons.

Officials at the Defense Acquisition Program Administration and the Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA) agreed to cooperate on establishing a domestic drone ecosystem and bolstering the country's drone capabilities in a meeting held at KASA headquarters in Sacheon, about 300 kilometers south of Seoul. They also agreed to push to establish standards for civilian and military drones, and launch joint development and research projects for high-tech drone technology, in what marked the first director general-level talks between the two agencies on drone development.

The latest meeting came as part of efforts to advance technology for unmanned aerial vehicles that are increasingly becoming important in modern warfare. (Yonhap).
