Governor Greg Abbott Requests SBA Disaster Declaration for Northeast Texas to Aid Recovery After Severe Weather

Governor Greg Abbott has taken a step towards recovery for the communities of Northeast Texas affected by this month's severe weather events, by requesting a disaster declaration from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

This request, if approved, would enable federal assistance through disaster loans to not only Morris County but also the contiguous counties dealing in the aftermath of the destruction. "Approval of this declaration will provide access to low-interest loans to help Texans rebuild their homes and businesses and move forward," Gov. Abbott stated in the press release .



This request is based on a thorough analysis of the damages, carried out by a group of local, state, and federal officials, whose findings confirm that the necessary thresholds for SBA assistance have been met. Additionally, officials have reviewed disaster damage reports submitted by Texans through the iSTAT surveys, a self-reporting tool.
