Governor Mark Gordon has issued an additional statement regarding the two abortion bans that were overturned by Teton County District Court Judge Melissa Owens on Monday. Owens ruled that two laws passed by the Wyoming legislature regarding abortion violate the Wyoming Constitution. The 'Life Act' and the 'Medication Abortion Ban' are the laws in question being struck down, once again.
Article 1, Section 38 of the Wyoming Constitution states that every Wyomingite has the right to healthcare access. Owens says that the two laws infringed on this Article, and on the rights of pregnant women. Here’s what the Governor said in his response on Tuesday: "I have instructed the Attorney General to review the ruling and prepare an appeal to the Wyoming Supreme Court.
As this legal process is ongoing, I will have no further comment at this time." The Wyoming Democratic Party applauded the ruling. “But this fight isn’t over.
Republican lawmakers have shown they’ll stop at nothing to force their agenda on Wyoming women, and we know they’ll be back in the next legislative session with new attacks on our rights. Our Democratic legislators will continue fighting like hell to protect women’s fundamental right to make healthcare decisions without interference, and the Wyoming Democratic Party will stand with them every step of the way.”.
