State Rep. Jerry Govan, D-Orangeburg, will host the first in a series of town hall meetings on Thursday, Feb. 6, at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College.
This event begins with registration and a meet-and-greet at 5:30 p.m., followed by the town hall meeting from 6 p.
m. to 7:30 p.m.
The theme of this year’s town hall series is “Building Stronger Communities: Unlocking Resources Together.” Each meeting will focus on identifying challenges and meeting the needs of District 93 residents and surrounding communities, with an emphasis on inter-agency collaboration and increasing access to vital resources. “I look forward to bringing together local, state and federal officials to share information and address pressing concerns,” Govan said in a release.
“Our goal is to foster open dialogue, build stronger communities, and ensure constituents have direct access to the resources they need.” The first town hall will focus on the ongoing issues related to flooding, road closures and other extreme weather impacts that have affected the region over the past several months. The program will feature a panel discussion and Q&A session with representatives from agencies including the S.
C. Department of Transportation, the S.C.
Department of Environmental Services Dam Safety Program, the S.C. Office of Regulatory Staff and FEMA.
A second panel, composed of administrative officials from Calhoun, Orangeburg and Lexington counties and emergency services, will brief the public on current situations and preparations for future emergency responses.
