The cause of death of Hollywood star Michelle Trachtenberg, best known for her role on Gossip Girl, has been confirmed two months after the 39-year-old actress died

Michelle Trachtenberg's cause of death has been confirmed two months after she was found dead at her New York City apartment. The Gossip Girl star was 39. Authorities in New York have revealed the star died from complications due to diabetes, according to reports.

A medical examiner revealed actress passed away from "complications of diabetes mellitus" according to TMZ. The lab results cited in the reveal did not state whether Michelle had type 1 or type 2 diabetes, however. The latest news comes after relatives of the late Gossip Girl actress reportedly refused an autopsy.



Michelle was tragically found dead at a residential address in New York in February. Authorities said they responded to an emergency call to One Columbus Place in New York and the Euro Trip actress was confirmed dead after emergency medical services arrived. A source revealed to People shortly after her death that the actress had confided in friends about her emotional and physical struggles in the year leading up to her death.

"She was really, really sick and was open with those close to her about her struggles," the insider shared. They also described her as appearing "pale, gaunt, and very thin." Michelle was best known for her roles in Harriet the Spy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Gossip Girl.

She had initially shot to fame as a child on Nickelodeon. However, she had stepped back from her Hollywood life before her death. A source close to her has noted that she had taken a "step away" from her career over the course of the past decade.

Speaking to People , a friend said: "She had taken a step away from Hollywood. "She just had the story of childhood stardom. She had a couple roles throughout the last decade, but nothing of real note.

She really pulled back from Hollywood [in] the last eight years." They continued: "She was a great girl who just never got her footing, just like many childhood stars." After starring in Harriet the Spy and 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Michelle rose to greater fame in the late 2000s with her role on Gossip Girl.

Her last credited appearance was on the 2023 reboot of the hugely popular teen drama. The insider added: "She was an overall great girl. She was always kind, supportive and loving.

It's so sad. It really is. She was an amazing person.
