French toast is a versatile breakfast food that can be enjoyed with fruits, maple syrup, or even bacon and hash browns. Whether you fall into the more sweet or savoury camp, Gordon Ramsay 's French toast sandwich recipe will delight both. This isn't to say that the French toast has a savoury bite because it's sweet through and through, but it will be satisfying to the tastebuds nonetheless.

With candied apples, thimbleberry jam, and creme fraiche, the flavour combination will be truly delightful. Here's how to recreate Gordon Ramsay's sweet French toast recipe in as little as 15 minutes. Ingredients Three eggs Quarter cup granulated sugar, divided About quarter cup heavy cream, divided Two small red apples, cores removed and chopped into large pieces Unsalted butter One tbsp apple cognac Three thick slices pf white sandwich bread Olive oil Thimbleberry jam One-and-a-half tbsp crème fraîche Crack the eggs into a bowl, whisk, then add one-and-a-half tablespoons of sugar, followed by heavy cream.



Set aside. Heat up a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat; once hot, add the remaining sugar to caramelise. Add the apples with a tablespoon of butter, tossing to coat.

Drizzle the apple cognac over the apples, followed by a tablespoon of heavy cream, then bring the mixture to a low boil. Using another skillet, heat up a tablespoon of olive oil and a tablespoon of butter until melted. Meanwhile, quickly dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture.

Add the coated slices of bread into the skillet with the melted butter, and brown on each side (flipping the bread only once), then remove from the heat. In the other skillet, the candied apples can be removed from the heat (just make sure all the cream has been absorbed). To serve Spread a couple tablespoons of jam onto one slice of the toasted bread, then top with the candied apples.

Top with another slice of bread and more apples; repeat, finishing off with a dollop of creme fraiche and more jam..
