Tech giant Google said that it had suspended 2.9 million advertiser accounts in India and removed 247.4 million advertisements in 2024 for violating its advertisement policy.
According to the Google’s Ads Safety Report, the top policy violations included financial services, trademark, abusing the ad network, personalized ads, and gambling and games. Google said it had suspended over 39.2 million advertiser accounts, restricted more than 9.
1 billion advertisements, and removed over 5.1 billion ads worldwide in 2024. The company noted that it launched over 50 enhancements to its large language models (LLMs) in 2024.
These upgrades accelerated complex investigations, helping identify bad actors and fraud signals such as illegitimate payment information during account setup. The company has also adapted defenses against evolving scams, notably the rise of AI-generated public figure impersonation ads, Google said in a blogpost. Google said they assembled a team of over 100 experts to develop countermeasures, such as updating misrepresentation policy to suspend advertisers that promote scams, which led to permanent suspension of 700,000 offending advertiser accounts.
