The plan involves tagging content with specific metadata that reveals whether it was produced using AI tools. Over the next few months, users will start seeing these labels across various Google products, including Search, Images, and Lens. By clicking on the “About this image” feature, users can find out if an image or media item was generated or edited by AI.

More details about this feature are expected later in the year. To support these initiatives, Google and its partners have developed new technical standards called Content Credentials. These credentials will track the history of content creation, confirming whether a photo or video was captured with a specific camera, edited, or generated using AI.
