In an update provided via its Issue Tracker, Google says that problems with the Now Playing feature on Pixel devices is “fixed” with an update forthcoming. Over the past few months, many Google Pixel owners have noticed that the “Now Playing” feature hasn’t been working as well as it had in the past . Between ambient identification not activating and manual searches failing, something has been up, even if the root cause is unknown.

In an update to an Issue Tracker thread regarding Now Playing problems, Google left a comment on February 26 saying that the issue had been fixed and that the fix will be “rolling out in an upcoming release.” There’s a bit of wiggle room in what Google is referring to here. Initially, the thread specifically targeted problems with manual search in Now Playing, but comments went on to point out the problems with ambient identification as well.

It’s unclear when this fix will roll out, but, anecdotally, members of 9to5Google have noticed recently that Now Playing has started working more reliably since the alarm was first sounded.
