An issue with Google Nest and Google Home speakers and smart displays is leaving some users unable to get answers for basic queries over the past few days, with commands simply not working. The appeal of Google Assistant speakers and smart displays has always been to get quick answers to questions with a simple prompt. However, many Google Nest and Google Home owners have noticed over the past several days that basic prompts simply are not working.
This issue seems to have popped up within the past week over the holidays, with many users reporting problems just in the first days of the new year. Simple prompts such as “What’s the weather” or “What is the time” leave the Google Home or Nest speakers silent, processing the command and perhaps showing lights before ultimately doing nothing. The issue seems to primarily be around basic commands.
Users started reporting the problem on Google’s forums as far back as December 30 , claiming the problem started a few days before. More reports have surfaced in the time since. The folks over at Android Authority were able to replicate the problem, with many in the post’s comments confirming the same issue on their end.
While the issue is certainly not confined to only a handful of users, it’s also not affecting everyone, as we couldn’t replicate the problem in our testing. It does seem to be affecting users across various regions and multiple devices as well, including Google Home, Nest Hub Max, Home Mini, Nest Audio, and Nest Hub. Are you running into this problem?
