Google Messages gets "Your Profile" feature: Here’s what it is

Google is enhancing privacy and personalization in Google Messages with the new 'Your profile' feature. Users can now manage their profile picture and name visibility during conversations with three privacy settings: showing details to contacts, people messaged, or no one. The feature is being gradually rolled out.

Google is taking steps to personalise the messaging experience with the rollout of a new "Your profile" feature in Google Messages . This update gives users more control over how they appear to their contacts, addressing privacy concerns and fostering a more connected communication experience. Previously, users had limited options for customising their profiles within Google Messages.

Now, the "Your profile" feature offers a dedicated space to manage your profile picture and name displayed during conversations. When opening Google Messages, a prompt may appear inviting you to "Customise how you are seen." Tapping this prompt leads to the "Your profile" page, where users can edit their displayed name and choose a profile picture.

The picture is pulled from your Google Account by default, but you can also choose a custom image. More importantly, the update introduces control over who gets to see your profile details. A "Show name and picture to" dropdown menu offers three options: Your contacts: This setting displays your profile information only to contacts saved in your address book.

People you message: This option shows your profile to anyone you exchange messages with, regardless of whether they are saved as a contact. No one: This setting hides your profile picture and name altogether. While "Your profile" is currently rolling out in stages, most users can expect to see the feature in the coming weeks.

For those who want more control over their online presence within Google Messages, the "Your profile" update provides a valuable tool for managing how they connect with others..
