New Delhi, November 9: Google is reportedly working on a new update for its Call Screening feature that could let users respond to phone calls using AI-powered smart replies. The change would build on the existing call screening system to offer an easier method for its users to manage incoming calls. According to a report of 9to5Google , a line of code in the Google Phone app suggests that it will allow users to respond to a caller through new AI-powered smart replies.
Google could add AI replies to its call-screening feature, as per a report of The Verge . These replies are expected to be short, pre-written messages generated by Google's AI, which can be sent instantly in response to incoming calls. Google made its call-screening feature available to everyone in Android 12. The tool lets you filter incoming calls, so you don’t have to answer every call yourself. Instead, Google Assistant can take care of it for you by responding with an audio message to ask who is calling.
According to multiple reports, the call-screening feature is still limited at the moment. It doesn't have the ability to understand if the caller has a more complex request or need. Additionally, there are few preset responses that users can choose when replying to the caller.

Last year, Google also introduced a new feature called "contextual replies." The feature uses the context of a caller's situation to provide customised audio responses. Replies can be more relevant to the specific call you are receiving.
Users no longer need to answer the call themselves with this feature. Instead, they can allow Google Assistant to handle the call for them. The Assistant will respond to the person on the other end with a personalised audio message.
Initially, Google Assistant will ask the caller to identify themselves and explain the reason for their call. (The above story first appeared on LatestLY on Nov 09, 2024 12:02 PM IST. For more news and updates on politics, world, sports, entertainment and lifestyle, log on to our website latestly.
