Google Is Planning To Revamp Gemini Overlay Windows On Android? Here's What We Know

Google appears to be experimenting with a redesigned overlay window for its Gemini AI assistant on Android devices. On Friday, a Reddit user shared a screenshot showcasing the updated interface, which appears when Gemini is activated via voice command or manually. Unlike the existing larger square window, the new design features a sleek rectangular box with just three interactive icons.Several users responding to the post also reported encountering the updated interface on their devices.ALSO READ | Assassin's Creed Shadows' First Major Expansion 'Claws Of Awaji' Reportedly Leaked, Here's What We KnowGemini Revamp? The Reddit post, shared by user amitsama92 in the GooglePixel subreddit, highlighted the new interface. They mentioned using a Pixel 9 Pro with Gemini for Android app version 1.0.686588308 and claimed to have a Gemini Advanced subscription. It remains unclear whether the updated design is linked to the device model, app version, or subscription status. For now, the redesigned overlay seems to be in limited testing. While some Reddit users confirmed seeing the updated overlay, others reported no changes, suggesting a gradual or experimental rollout by Google.According to the screenshot shared by the user, the updated Gemini overlay adopts a sleek, thin rectangular floating window with a distinctive neon pink-and-blue glow outlining its edges. Inside the box, a plus icon is positioned near the left side, while a microphone and Gemini Live icon are placed toward the right. The text "Ask Gemini" is prominently displayed next to the plus icon.A few notable changes stand out compared to the current design. The greeting message, typically present in the overlay, is absent, and the full-screen button on the top-right corner is missing as well. The colour scheme has also been altered, with the existing dark grey overlay replaced by a white box. Another noticeable difference is the removal of the sparkle icon, which was previously located at the top of the interface. At this stage, there has been no official announcement regarding the redesigned interface. Apart from the Reddit post, no other sources have confirmed this update, and 9to5Google reported not finding any devices with the new feature. This suggests that the updated interface could be in the early testing phase with limited access. An official statement from Google will likely clarify whether the revamped Gemini overlay is indeed in development.
