Ashley Ridge followed an undefeated season by winning the Girls Golf Class 5A, Division 1 Lower State Championship and cracking the Top 5 at the state-championship match. The Swamp Foxes tied for fifth place at the 5A, Division 1 Championship Oct. 29-30 at Columbia Country Club.
Ashley Ride and Blythewood both finished the tournament with a team score of 693 to tie for fifth place. “With team captain Avery Smith leading the way we were able to have the program’s first undefeated season,” Ashley Ridge coach Ron McNally said. “The dedication our girls showed this year paid off with us winning both the region championship and Lower State championship and having a strong performance during the state finals.
” Dorman turned in a two-day total of 647 to top runner-up River Bluff by 12 strokes and claim the 2024 state title. Lexington came in at 660 to place third and Carolina Forest came in at 669 to place fourth. Wando (719) placed seventh while Cane Bay (789) placed 12th, Stratford (810) placed 13th and West Ashley (846) placed 15th.
Blythewood junior Carolina Hawkins shot a two-day total of 139 to claim Low Medalist honors for the third straight year. Wando’s Grace Lindsey finished at two-over par to claim individual runner-up honors. Annabel Carman led Ashley Ridge, finishing with a 153 total to tie for third place with Dorman’s Londyn Rath.
The Top 10 individuals, including ties, receive All-State honors. Other golfers making the All-State Team are River Bluff’s Caitlyn Gaines (155), Dorman’s Ava Romansky (157) and AC Peake (157), Carolina Forest’s Savannah Sansom (157) and Claudia Mediate (159), River Bluff’s Charlie Heaton (161) and Fort Dorchester’s Marlie Duarte (161)..
