Golfer Albie Beeston makes his mark in Selborne Salver

The Hampshire Junior Champion would normally have just finished playing in the Hampshire Hog before settling down to watch the action unfold at Augusta on the Sunday evening. But the long-term refurbishment plans meant the North Hants club could not guarantee getting the course up to "championship standard" in time for the annual April event. That left Selborne Salver organisers to create a one-off second 36-hole competition at Blackmoor on Friday, with their own event remaining in its traditional Saturday slot.

(Image: Andrew Griffin) Fifteen-year-old Beeston got his first proper sight of the tough East Hampshire heathland course in the Blackmoor Salver, where he finished 24th with a score of five-over. That was some 14 shots behind Hunstanton's Ben Willis.
