RÓISÍN Scanlon, recent winner of the Helm Holm Scottish Women’s Open Golf Championship at Royal Troon, has a strong West Limerick connection.Her father Anthony is from Askeaton, who met his wife Taneisha Robinson (Jamaica) while both were in the United States on an athletics scholarships.Anthony’s parents are Michael – himself an enthusiastic golfer at Newcatle West GG – and Úna, who both reside in Askeaton.
With Anthony on her bag, Róisín won in Scotland by a commanding five shots.She was the only player from a competitive field to finish the Championship under par.“I’m really happy, I’m happy that all the work that I put in back in Albany is paying off,” said Scanlon who made her debut at the Irish Open last year.
“I was really nervous due to the fact the last round was on a different golf course where anything can happen but I played well. This is my first time playing this event and it’s so special to be out here on a Sunday.”Scanlon is attached to Woborn GC in Mllton Keyes, London.
