A dog who had just completed a walking challenge with her owner was rescued by firefighters after getting her head wedged between two stone structures. Cora the goldendoodle had finished the annual East Lancashire Long Distance Walkers’ Two Crosses challenge, which sees walkers and dogs run or walk between 18 to 25 miles on Sunday, March 9. The route begins and ends in Greenmount where participants can take in views of the Holcombe and Affetside countryside along the way.
Cora found herself in trouble soon afterwards when her head became "firmly stuck" between a stone pillar and a stone wall at Greenmount Old School Community Centre. Firefighters from Green Watch at Bury Fire Station were called at 4.45pm on Sunday.
Crews carefully used a hammer and chisel to remove two courses of stonework. Luckily for Cora and her owner, the unusual rescue operation was completed in approximately 10 minutes and she was freed without any injuries. WM Connell at Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, praised the "swift and skilful actions" of the firefighters involved.
