Gogglebox fans 'switch off' as show ends with 'weird' and 'disturbing' scene

The beloved Gogglebox families were back for more television commentary on Friday night but neither they nor the viewers at home were ready for what was shown on their screens. Among the programmes watched by our favourite Goggleboxers were Gladiators, The Apprentice, Celebrity Bear Hunt and The Fear Clinic: Face Your Phobia on February 21. However, it was a scene from the new season of The White Lotus, which premiered on Sky on Monday (17 February), that elicited the most significant response.

Known for its risque scenes and shocking moments in its first two seasons set in Hawaii and Sicily, The White Lotus continues this trend in its new season. The third instalment of the mystery drama begins with a fresh cast of characters arriving at a new White Lotus resort, this time located in picturesque Thailand. Aimee Lou Wood and Walton Goggins portray an age gap couple, Chelsea and Rick, while Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon and Michelle Monaghan play three long-time friends on a girls' trip.



Natasha Rothwell, a fan favourite from the first season who plays Belinda, also makes an appearance. However, it's the family headed by Jason Isaacs and Parker Posey, playing Timothy and Victoria, that has sparked the most discussion due to the unfolding storyline involving their adult children, portrayed by Sarah Catherine Hook, Patrick Schwarzenegger and Sam Nivola, reports the Mirror . The debut episode of the show featuring brothers Saxon and Lochlan sharing a hotel room has sparked quite the conversation online, and now it was the turn of the Gogglebox families to witness the talked-about scene.

In it, the elder brother Saxon (played by Schwarzenegger) inquires about his younger brother's porn preferences before heading to the bathroom for some private time, stark naked, with his reflection visible in the mirror. Gogglebox viewers were spared the full frontal image, but the reactions from the show's households, including Ellie and Izzy, Jenny and Lee, and the family of Michael, Sally, Jake, and Harry, were all unified by a shocked "Oh!" Giles, watching alongside his wife Mary, couldn't help but remark: "So far, so pervy, Mary," as they both looked on in astonishment. Meanwhile, Jake assured his twin Harry: "I have never done this by the way!" making it clear he was referring to Saxon's reason for retreating to the bathroom.

Pete shared some hotel wisdom with his sister Sophie, musing: "Something happens to people when they stop in hotels," and elaborated that regardless of the hotel's price range, he's overheard things through the walls, leading him to use shortbread biscuits as makeshift earplugs. A fan, taking to X, joked about the newfound use for complimentary hotel shortbread, saying: "Now we know what to do with the complimentary shortbread biscuits in hotels, thanks Pete and Sophie,". "Gogglebox so far so pervy lol he's right there," concurred another Gogglebox fan, and a third shared: "#Gogglebox has just made me put a line through watching the white lotus.

Too weird and disturbing. No thanks!" Another viewer admitted that the clip had prompted them to switch off Gogglebox altogether: "Why does #Gogglebox always end with the weird stuff. Turned off for the last five minutes.
