GoFundMe Created for 4-Year-Old Jaelynn Chavira Following Fatal Crash Near Barstow

DAGGETT, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A GoFundMe has been launched to support the family of 4-year-old Jaelynn Maria Chavira, who died following a crash on National Trails Highway near Ponnay Street on Saturday night, April 5, 2025.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the crash was reported at about 8:32 p.m. when a black 2020 Cadillac SUV, carrying three young passengers, overturned after veering off the roadway.



Officer Shane Sandoval said a 30-year-old woman from Newberry Springs was traveling eastbound when, for unknown reasons, she lost control, drove onto the right shoulder, and struck a dirt embankment, causing the vehicle to overturn. Inside the SUV were a six-month-old, a four-year-old, and a five-year-old, all believed to be properly restrained. After the crash, the driver was able to remove the six-month-old and five-year-old, both of whom sustained only minor injuries.

Jaelynn, initially believed to have died at the scene, briefly regained a pulse after CPR efforts but later succumbed to her injuries at Barstow Community Hospital. The GoFundMe campaign, titled “In Memory of Jaelynn”, describes her as a “sweet, loving, and joyful” child whose life was tragically cut short. The family is asking for prayers and support during what they describe as an unimaginable loss.

“Every contribution will help support the family and honor the beautiful light she brought into this world,” the fundraiser states. “As this is a painful loss to our entire family, we know that Jaelyn is now with God. We will stand in Faith as we mourn Jaelynn.

We ask that you continue to pray for our family, especially her father Marky/Bub and mother Kristal.” Authorities confirmed that alcohol and drugs are not suspected factors in the crash. The investigation into the cause remains ongoing.
