Sony Santa Monica's God of War Ragnarok will receive a PS5 Pro Enhanced update, following the announcement of the PS5 Pro console. This update was recently noticed on the PlayStation Store, though neither Sony nor Santa Monica Studios have officially revealed details about the game's enhancements for the PS5 Pro. Fans hope the update will boost resolution while maintaining a smooth 60 frames per second, improving the already acclaimed gameplay experience.
God of War Ragnarok joins over 60 titles confirmed to receive PS5 Pro Enhanced updates, alongside games like Blizzard’s Diablo 4. The PS5 Pro features AI-powered upscaling technology called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which automatically improves image clarity. PS5 Pro Enhanced games are specifically optimized to take full advantage of the new console’s capabilities, such as enhanced graphics and performance.
According to a report by IGN India, developers from major PlayStation titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and The Last of Us Part 2 discussed the performance improvements expected on the more powerful PS5 Pro. While some games, such as Space Marine 2, may benefit from PSSR without a specific PS5 Pro patch, it remains uncertain if God of War Ragnarok's update will bring similar enhancements. Interestingly, the news comes shortly after God of War Ragnarok launched on PC, receiving a mixed reception on Steam.
A primary complaint was the forced PlayStation Network account linking, which was later bypassed by a mod that has since been removed due to legal concerns. The PC version also introduced the ability to tone down puzzle hints from companions—a feature requested by many players. This feature is expected to be added to the console version soon, potentially alongside the PS5 Pro Enhanced update, the IGN India report stated.
Despite the few player complaints, God of War Ragnarok has been highly successful, selling over 11 million copies within three months and receiving critical acclaim. The PS5 Pro update is anticipated to further elevate the game’s already immersive experience.
