JUST over four months after Raoul Glynn was placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation, his tenure as managing director of the West Indian Tobacco Company Ltd (WITCO) has officially ended. However, it remains unclear whether he resigned or was dismissed from the position. Despite inquiries, WITCO has so far remained silent on the circumstances that prompted the internal investigation—or its findings.

“Mr Raoul Glynn has ceased to be the managing director of the West Indian Tobacco Company Ltd with effect from October 31, 2024. Mr Glynn also ceased to be a director of the company from the same date,” a notice of material change posted by the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange stated yesterday. Hiram Murillo, who has been serving as acting managing director during the investigation, will remain in the role until further notice, it stated.

The notice of material change, under the name of WITCO chairman Ingrid Lashley, was published in accordance with Section 64(1)(b) of the Securities Act. Glynn was appointed as a director and managing director of WITCO on October 1, 2022, following the resignation of Laurent Meffre. Glynn previously served in several senior roles within the British American Tobacco (BAT) Group, including as the managing director of the Jamaican tobacco company Carreras until September 2022 and as the country manager of Carisma Marketing Services (CMS), where he was responsible for the general management of 21 markets of the English-, French- and Dutch-speaking Caribbean.
