George Skivington explains why he has brought in an additional player

Fly-half Tiff Eden is currently on trial at Gloucester Rugby, director of rugby George Skivington has confirmed. Cheltenham-born Eden, 30, has been with the Cherry and Whites for the last three weeks after finding himself without a club for the 2024/25 season. Eden began his career with Championship side Nottingham before moving to Worcester Warriors.

He then spent five years at Bristol Bears before a two-year stint in Parma with United Rugby Championship side Zebre. Earlier this season, having found himself without a club, Eden signed a short-term contract with Saracens as injury cover and during the Six Nations break he trained with his former club Bristol. But he has now been invited to train at Kingsholm and was added to the club’s European squad ahead of Saturday’s last 16 knockout round tie with Montpellier in the EPCR Challenge Cup.

Skvington said: “He's on a bit of a trial with us. He's been training, he actually just picked up a little niggle the other week, so he's done a week's training, but he is with us on trial effectively. He obviously knows a lot of the lads; he's Cheltenham-based anyway.

He's a really good bloke and a very good player. He's in and amongst it for a couple of months." Explaining the thinking of bringing in Eden with the club well stocked at fly-half with Gareth Anscombe on the verge of a playing return from a hamstring injury and Charlie Atkinson and Santi Carreras proven options at number 10, Skivington said: “We're not a massive squad, so we quite often find ourselves in the position where we could do with some extra training numbers and someone like Tiff wants to come in and try and prove he's a viable person to sign and if not he wants to stay active for another opportunity.
