Santana, the legendary American rock band, has sparked rumours of a potential Glastonbury performance next year following the announcement of three UK concerts in June. The group, led by Carlos Santana, is set to perform at Glasgow's OVO Hydro on June 18, Manchester's Co-op Live on June 19, and London's O2 on June 21. These gigs are part of their 50th anniversary 'Oneness' tour and fall just days before the globally renowned Glastonbury festival, which runs from June 25 to 29 in Somerset, south west England.
However, it's worth noting that the band also has European concerts scheduled during the same period, including performances in Antwerp, Belgium, on June 25, and Zurich, Switzerland on June 28. This scheduling leaves the 'Smooth' hitmakers with two potential dates - June 27 or June 29 - to grace the stage at Worthy Farm. Currently, Sir Rod Stewart is the only confirmed act for the festival.
The 'Maggie May' singer will take on the Sunday afternoon legends slot. Rod, who will be 80 at the time of his performance, has claimed that this prestigious opportunity will cost him a staggering $300,000 (£237,780). The rock icon revealed he "immediately" accepted the invitation from Emily and Michael Eavis to perform a teatime set at Glastonbury, though he disclosed that it comes with a significant financial burden.
Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, when quizzed about how swiftly he jumped at the chance, he replied: "Immediately. It's a great honour." He then disclosed the hefty personal cost of the performance: "It's going to cost me a fortune to do it - $300,0000.
" The 79 year old music veteran elaborated on the expenses involved in bringing his live band over from the States for the show, stating that while Glastonbury doesn't cover these costs, he believes the opportunity is priceless and he'd willingly pay up to a million dollars (£792,500) for the experience. He said: "I've got to bring all my band back from America, of course Glastonbury don't pay for that. But I don't care if it cost me $1 million, I would have done it.
This is a great honour. It really is the greatest honour." Previous legends such as Dolly Parton, Barry Gibb, and Kylie Minogue have graced the same slot in earlier years.
