Glasgow Tesco plans to convert unused shop space into gym

Tesco has lodged plans to convert the upper floor of its Cobden Road store in Glasgow into a gym. The gym could have a studio space, cardio equipment and a spin room.

has lodged plans to convert some unused shop space in one of its superstores into a gym. A planning application sent to says Tesco wants to build the at its store on Cobden Road at St Rollox Business and Retail Park in Springburn. Documents are requesting permission to change the upstairs floor of the store from shopping "used for garment sale" into a space for "assembly and leisure".

The space had previously been used for the selling of Tesco brand F&F as well as Burton and Dorothy Perkins. Proposed floor plans show that the mezzanine level could be transformed and include equipment such as running machines, rowing machines, weight machines, squat racks, a studio, and a spin room. There are also plans to create male and female changing rooms on the upper floor.



Glasgow City Council will consider the plans over the coming weeks. Tesco has been approached for more information..
