Girls Wrestling: Brainerd’s Pickar advances to section semis

Brainerd hosted Day One of the Section 7-8 Championships Friday, Feb. 7.

BRAINERD — Brainerd’s Ariana Pickar advanced to the semifinals at 124 pounds in the Section 7-8 Championships with two wins Friday, Feb. 7. Pickar pinned Evelyn Schawzbauer in 51 seconds before pinning Dawnie Hobrecht in 1:48 to reach the semifinals.

ADVERTISEMENT Pickar will face Thief River Falls’ Maddie Poissant in the semifinals Saturday, Feb. 8. Pierz’s Ava Phillips pinned both of her opponents to reach the semifinals at 136.



Phillips faces Bemidji’s Imrie Mistic in the semifinals. Brainerd’s Anilyse Bundy (100), Holly Bergin (130), Annika Dalzell (136), Arianna Halbert (148), Chloe Patrick (155), Ethan Roberts (170) and Lilana Kosloski (190) stayed alive in the consolation bracket. Aitkin’s Carli Crain (124) and Bela May (148) finished 1-1 to stay alive in the consolation bracket.

Little Falls’ Rylie Eustice will face Mora’s Natalie Olson in the consolation bracket at 130. Pierz has three wrestlers in the consolation bracket including Myah Held at 118, who won two matches Friday. Staples-Motley has four wrestlers still in the tournament, including Ainka Tureson at 170.

Tureson will face Brainerd’s Roberts in the consolation bracket. ADVERTISEMENT The top two from each weight class will advance to the state tournament..
