Girls tennis roundup: Willmar Cardinals drop CLC dual to Brainerd Warriors

BRAINERD — The Willmar girls tennis team was shut out by host Brainerd in a Central Lakes Conference dual on Thursday. The Warriors won 7-0. They move to 6-1 in the CLC this season.

Willmar drops to 0-6 in the CLC. Two singles matches needed three sets to declare a winner. At No.



1 singles, Brainerd’s Kamryn Kraemer held on to beat the Cardinals’ Kennedy Mara, 6-2, 2-6, 10-7. The Warriors’ Taryn Mithun also got the three-set victory, 6-1, 2-6, 10-5 over Emily Floren at No. 3 singles.

The Cardinals host Fergus Falls as its CLC schedule continues at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Willmar.

Brainerd 7, Willmar 0 Annandale 5, NLS 2 Annandale went a perfect 4-0 in singles play to beat New London-Spicer at Annandale. The Wildcats’ Jadyn Proehl and Addilyn Nelson got a three-set victory at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

Heidi Taunton and Averie Turner followed that with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles. NLS hosts a triangular against Sauk Centre and Perham on Saturday.

The Wildcats play Sauk Centre at 10 a.m. and finish out the triangular against Perham at 2 p.

m. Litchfield 4, Alexandria 3 Three singles wins lifted Litchfield past Alexandria at Glencoe. Isla Dille, Maya Wuotila and Emma Wuotila earned victories for the Dragons.

The trio won at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles. All their wins came in straight sets.

Brynn Nagel and Tayah Damerow won at No. 2 doubles in consecutive sets for Litchfield. The Dragons next host an invitational at 9 a.

m. Saturday at Litchfield. Minnewaska 6, Benson/KMS 1 Third-ranked (Class A) Minnewaska claimed a West Central Conference win over Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg at Glenwood.

Olivia Danielson notched a 6-0, 6-0 victory for the Lakers at No. 3 singles. The No.

3 doubles team of McKenna Uhde and Katie Sorenson also won 6-0, 6-0. The Braves’ win came at No. 4 singles.

Emily McGinty won, 6-3, 6-3. Minnewaska plays Morris/Chokio-Alberta/West Central Area at 4 p.m.

Tuesday at Morris. Benson/KMS competes at the Litchfield Invitational at 9 a.m.

Saturday. Montevideo 6, Marshall 1 The Thunder Hawks swept Marshall in the three doubles matches to cruise to a victory over the Tigers at Marshall. Gwyn Smiens and Lily Eisenlohr, Megan Macziewski and Hallie Helgeson and Kylie Johnson and Teagan Epema were the doubles partners who picked up wins for Montevideo.

Montevideo plays New London-Spicer at 4 p.m. Monday at New London.

Melrose 4, YME 3 Melrose picked up a pair of doubles wins and two singles victories to get past Yellow Medicine East at Granite Falls. Brianna Nelson and Abigail Jimenez picked up straight set wins at Nos. 1 and 4 singles for the Sting.

Kyla Smith and Carley Redepenning were also victorious at No. 2 doubles for YME. YME plays Morris/Chokio-Alberta at 4 p.

m. Monday at Morris. LQPV/D-B 6, Sauk Centre 1 Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd got a sweep of wins from its doubles teams in its victory over the Mainstreeters at Sauk Centre.

Kayla Jahn, Elsie Wiebe and Alexis Olesen at Nos. 2, 3 and 4 singles picked up straight set victories for LQPV/D-B, which plays Yellow Medicine East at 4:30 p.m.

Tuesday at Granite Falls. MACA/WCA 6, MACCRAY 1 Kylie Prekker netted a win for MACCRAY in the Wolverines’ loss to Morris/Chokio-Alberta/West Central Area at Clara City. Playing at No.

4 singles, Prekker beat the Tigers’ Lilia Asmus, 7-5, 6-0. MACCRAY goes to Montevideo at 4:30 p.m.

Tuesday. Central Minnesota Conference meet Three singles players for Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa went 2-1 at the Central Minnesota Conference meet at Osakis. Bree Thieschafer, Izzy Graham and Skylar Knight-DeWeerd all were 2-1 at Nos.

2, 3 and 4 singles. The Jaguars also got a 2-1 showing at No. 3 doubles by Olive Olson and Hannah Wurm.

BBE hosts a triangular against Melrose and Long Prairie-Grey Eagle on Monday. BBE plays Melrose at 12:30 p.m.

and LPGE at 3 p.m..
