Girls swimming and diving: Gators take 5 1sts at West Central Conference meet

Minnewaska/Morris places 3rd behind WCC champ Melrose and 2nd-place Sauk Centre

MORRIS — The Minnewaska/Morris Gators had five first-place finishes in the West Central Conference girls swimming and diving championship meet on Friday. The Gators finished in third place with 404 points. Melrose won with 686, followed by Sauk Centre with 491.

Montevideo was fourth with 303. Melena Longtin won both sprint events for Minnewaska/Morris. She won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.



43 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 55.48. Lyla Stadtherr won the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.

17. Clare Barnstuble claimed the diving title with a score of 372.60.

And the Gators’ 200 medley relay team of Becca Femrite, Stadtherr, Mesa Kittelson and Longtin took first in 1:58.28. For the Thunder Hawks, Lauren Dove (200 individual medley, 2:28.

44) and Elizabeth O’Malley (diving, 372.25) each had a second-place finish. Minnewaska/Morris is host to the Section 8A championship on Nov.

7-9 in Morris. Montevideo competes in the Section 3A championship on Nov. 7 and Nov.

9 at Hutchinson. WCC Championships.
