This past week in Amsterdam, I had the honour of facilitating the 20th International Children’s Peace Prize ceremony. Held in the breathtaking Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) in the heart of the city, the event was as inspiring as its setting. At the centre of it all was 17-year-old Nila Ibrahimi, this year’s laureate, who reminds us of the transformative power of raising your voice, even in the face of overwhelming odds.
Nila, an Afghan refugee now living in Canada, was recognised for her courageous work advocating for girls’ rights in Afghanistan, where the Taliban’s oppressive rules have silenced so many women since their return to power..
