Hayao Miyazaki, the founder of Ghibli art, has openly criticised AI-generated Ghibli-style artwork, calling it soulless and devoid of human creativity. On social media, there is a growing trend of such AI-generated images; however, many artists and fans continue to criticise the technology for producing in seconds what traditional Ghibli animation takes at least a year and a half to create. Traditional animation involves deep storytelling, hand-drawn details, and years of artistic dedication.

AI, by contrast, generates images without undergoing the creative struggles experienced by human artists. While AI may imitate a style, it lacks the emotional connection, personal vision, and cultural significance that define true art. Anyone can generate AI art, but it raises ethical concerns.

According to literary experts and art enthusiasts, original artists must be recognised and respected for their contributions. AI learns from the work of legendary artists such as Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata, and Yoshifumi Kondō. Without their creativity, AI would not be able to replicate their style.

Break the Chains Therefore, if AI generates art inspired by these pioneers, their names must be acknowledged and proper credit given. Otherwise, it risks diminishing the legacy of the very artists who made such styles possible. AI should serve as a tool to support human creativity—not replace it.
