The program, organized by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), aims to identify and nurture young players capable of competing internationally, with initial trials set for the Madina AstroTurf.The initiative forms part of a structured effort led by head coach Laryea Kingston and his technical team to evaluate talent across all 10 of Ghana’s football regions. By visiting grassroots venues nationwide, the GFA seeks to provide equitable opportunities for aspiring players, particularly those outside traditional talent hubs.
Successful candidates will advance to a national training camp for further assessment and development.GFA officials underscored the program’s role in revitalizing the country’s youth football pipeline, which has historically produced players who later feature in senior national teams and global leagues. The association reiterated its focus on creating a robust developmental framework to harness Ghana’s depth of emerging talent.
Ghana’s emphasis on youth scouting traces back to the Black Starlets’ back-to-back FIFA U-17 World Cup victories in 1991 and 1995, achievements that solidified the nation’s reputation in youth football. Recent years, however, have seen inconsistent performances, prompting renewed investment in structured scouting. Analysts suggest that sustained initiatives like this could reestablish Ghana’s competitive edge, particularly as African nations increasingly prioritize youth development to bridge gaps with global football powerhouses.
