GLENS FALLS—Geraldine Frances Goodrich (Gerry), age 100, passed away at home on Sunday, April 6, 2025, with the comfort of her daughter Lynette at her side. Gerry was born on December 21, 1924, in Syracuse, NY, as the only child of George and Ida Goodrich. She was considered and Army brat, moving around the country with her mother and father who was a colonel in the Army National Guard.
After graduating from Joplin High School in Missouri she met and married George Farris in 1943. While living in Illinois, they had three children: Susan, Ronald, and Steven. After their divorce, she then moved to Schenevus and married Gerald Goodrich on July 23, 1951, in Hackensack, NJ.
While living in Schenevus, they added to their family with two daughters, Lynette and Julie. Gerry was employed at Bresee’s Department Store in Oneonta, The Beams Oil Company and the U.S.
Post Office, both in Schenevus. At the age of 50, Gerry finally realized her dream of becoming a nurse by enrolling in the Fox Hospital/BOCES school of nursing. Gerry was the first recipient of the Excellence in Nursing award at Fox Hospital where she proudly worked as an LPN for 10 years until her retirement.
While living in Schenevus, she was a member of the Fire Department Auxiliary, Schenevus Chapter Order of Eastern Star-past Matron, and VFW Auxiliary. Prior to their retirement, Gerry and her husband bought a small fishing camp on Lake Ontario at Cape Vincent and worked several summers adding on a two-story, four-bedroom addition, garage, boathouse, deck, and a dock. For the next several years they enjoyed “the cottage” with many family members visiting throughout the summers.
They also enjoyed their snowbird life in Zephyrhills, Fl., during the winters. After her husband died, Gerry was welcomed into the home of her daughter, Lynette and son-in-law, Gordon in Glens Falls where she happily resided for 25 years until her death.
During Gerry’s years living in Glens Falls, she had many interests and hobbies including knitting, quilting, gardening, playing cards, volunteering with Operation Adopt-A-Soldier and the Salvation Army. She also loved being a volunteer at Glens Falls Hospital for many years offering 4500 hours of service. At the age of 79, with the Glens Falls Medical Mission, Gerry went to Guatemala and administered immunizations to children.
With her church members, she went to Mississippi to assist in the repair of houses damaged by Hurricane Katrina. Gerry also went on several “Midnight Run” trips with various local church groups to New York City to provide the homeless with clothing and meals. Prior to Covid, Gerry was very active in her church activities.
In addition to her parents, Gerry was predeceased by her husband, Gerald after 48 years of marriage; and infant son, Steven Farris. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Susan (Dr. Roy) Fazendeiro of New Bedford Mass.
, Ronald Farris of Waltham Mass., Lynette (Gordon) Dilmore of Glens Falls, and Julie (Kurt) Schulte of Oneonta; and her six grandchildren, Rory (Fatema) Fazendeiro, Tedra Clark, Eugene Duplissis, Matthew Shulte (Abby Costello), Laura (Edward) Hernandez, and David (Taylor) Shulte. Gerry was so fortunate to enjoy her 11 great-grandchildren, Aaron and Elena Clark, Mia and Cameron Fazendeiro, Paul Mooney, Daniel, Sarah and Rosemary Duplissis, Brock and Eva Hernandez, and Hudson Schulte.
