A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin has appeared to tease a return to the Game of Thrones universe for Arya Stark actress Maisie Williams.

Martin discussed a trip to London on his blog and said he met Williams for dinner while he was there. He then alluded to an upcoming project they were both seemingly involved in, but ( in a somewhat rare move ) stopped himself from saying too much. "We also got together with Maisie Williams for pizza and pasta, and talked about.

.. Well, no, better not get into that, do not want to jinx it," Martin said.

"But it could be so much fun." Williams isn't known to be involved in any upcoming Game of Thrones projects currently, and as there are only prequels planned so far, wouldn't fit in any either, at least as Arya. That's not to say she couldn't appear as another character, perhaps even as an ancestor of the Stark family.

Myriad Game of Thrones spin-offs have been announced and myriad have been cancelled since the main show's ending in 2019. Successes include House of the Dragon, the second season of which has just concluded , alongside A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which will adapt Martin's novella series . A movie is also reportedly in the works , and given how successful the main show and its prequel have been , it's likely HBO is planning even more.

One sequel series focused on Arya's brother Jon Snow was in the works but soon cancelled , so perhaps Williams could return in a continuation of her own. Other cancelled spin-offs include a prequel based on an in-world apocalypse called The Long Night, which HBO cancelled even after spending $30 million on a pilot episode , a show called 10,000 Ships which would focus on a sea-faring city , and a mysterious Braavos series which Martin plans on continuing in writing form himself . This will ony arrive after the infamously delayed next A Song of Ice and Fire novel, however.

Martin has, ironically, previously said he's made little progress with the book because of show development , and later slammed HBO for its direction of House of the Dragon Season 2 . The Winds of Winter was originally expected three years after the last book, A Dance With Dragons, in 2014, meaning it's now 10 years late. It's the penultimate A Song of Ice and Fire book, but many have now expressed doubt it will ever be released .

Martin did offer somewhat of a story tease for The Winds of Winter in July 2024 though, saying it will explain the relationship between dragons and humans and how the Targaryen's is different. Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelance reporter. He'll talk about The Witcher all day.
