George Clooney, the silver screen icon known for his roles in hits like Gravity and Ocean's Eleven, has revealed his top four films of all time. In a chat with Letterboxd posted to YouTube , the film-tracking app, Clooney disclosed his personal favourites, sparking speculation among fans about their influence on his directorial work. The Hollywood heavyweight, who has previously been in the running for an Academy Award for Best Director, has had his choices dissected by admirers.

One observant fan pointed out that the essence of these films is evident in Clooney's Oscar-nominated directorial venture, Good Night, and Good Luck. During the interview with Letterboxd, Clooney highlighted All the President's Men, Network, The Godfather, and Fail Safe as his cinematic picks. His selection was met with acclaim from the public, with many suggesting that All the President's Men, featuring Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman, may have shaped his approach to directing.

A fan commented: "George Clooney directed Good Night, and Good Luck, and in his picks you can see the references." Another fan brought attention to Clooney's involvement in a live, televised remake of Fail Safe in 2000, remarking it was "cool" to see him honour the original. They said: "George Clooney starred in a TV remake of Fail Safe in the year 2000, which was performed and broadcast live.

So that's cool that he picked it." Followers were left amazed at George Clooney's refined taste in cinema. A fan commented: "From all the interviewees that had made me say 'damn, what a good taste,' George Clooney is my most unexpected one.

Also, very encyclopaedic knowledge." Discussing the film 'Fail Safe', Clooney remarked: "There's a couple of things that are overacted in it, but there's something really extraordinary about it." Furthermore, he labelled 'The Godfather', directed by the renowned Francis Ford Coppola, as a "masterpiece".

Clooney, not just a famed actor but also a director, has helmed nine features starting with 'Confessions of a Dangerous Mind', starring Sam Rockwell. His latest directorial work, 'The Boys in the Boat', stars Joel Edgerton and Callum Turner and chronicles the story of the University of Washington's rowing team. In a revelation to The Guardian back in 2021, Clooney identified two iconic Tinseltown figures as vital influences.

Mentioning his connection to Paul Newman and Gregory Peck, he said the two proved to be great friends and greater influences. He said: "The two actors who were personally friends and also had the most influence on me were Paul Newman and Gregory Peck, both of whom were men I greatly admired for who they were and how they were on screen. They were proper old-fashioned movie stars and they mixed it up in [politics].

So it was really fun to be friends with them and copy some of the things they did.".
