Aaron Chalmers has spoken out against social media diet hacks, dismissing them as "just for Instagram". The 37-year-old initially found fame with Geordie Shore before entering the combative arenas of mixed martial arts and boxing . But his next chapter sees him grapple with a new endeavour - bare-knuckle boxing - as he gears up for his first bout under the Bare-Knuckle Fighting Championship on Saturday.
In preparation for the fight, Chalmers has had to be disciplined with his food intake, choosing healthful sustenance over sugary indulgences, yet he distances himself from the diets peddled by stars and self-styled experts online. Choosing a straightforward eating regimen, the Newcastle native told Get Surrey : "My only diet hack is three meals. "I'm not allowed no snacks, I'm not allowed nothing - which is hard.
I had the little one last night, and he was eating a McDonalds and there was half a burger left. And I was like, 'What I would do to have a bite of that'. But nah, just a typical dropping the calories.
There's no special diets round here." Chalmers has admitted to experimenting with various specialist hacks in the past, only to realise that many were designed more for social media engagement than actual effectiveness. He added: "I mean I've tried them in the past, but I think some of them are just for Instagram aren't they? "Some of them are for Instagram and content.
But I just think good old fashioned food and three square-meals a day." The NHS recommends a balanced diet as the true dietary hack Brits should adhere to, which includes consuming five portions of fruit and vegetables daily, along with a proper balance of starches, dairy, proteins, fats, and six to eight glasses of water. Despite this, numerous culinary enthusiasts continue to devise their own diet tweaks.
Nevertheless, Chalmers has opted for simplicity in his approach, sticking to three well-rounded meals per day and avoiding processed snacks. Having risen to fame with MTV, Chalmers transitioned into combat sports, making his mark in mixed martial arts with an initial 3-0 record with regional promotion BAMMA before advancing to 5-2 under the Bellator banner. The fighter then transitioned into the boxing ring, taking on opponents such as Idris Virgo, Kiefer Crosbie, and even Floyd Mayweather Jr , before opting to leave the gloves behind for a venture into bare-knuckle fighting.
Discussing the adjustments in his training regime ahead of his bare-knuckle debut against Chasa Symonds this Saturday, Chalmers said: "Not much you know? Not much. Obviously, we all spar, we just use small gloves, cause obviously you want to train your hands. "You want to let everything fly come fight night.
What you don't want is little niggles leading up to the fight, so I just train as I would for a boxing fight, then we're just going to let everything fly on fight night. The only difference is in the clinch work, which suits me because I used to do Muay Thai. "I was sparring last week and there was a lad, he must have done a bit of Muay Thai and he's used to kind of ragging a lot of the boxers all over by the neck.
He's got a hold of mine, and as soon as he got a hold of mine I got a hold of his, and he was like, 'Ahhhh stop, I forgot you done a bit of MMA'. "I said, 'Aye mate, you're not ragging me about by the neck'. So aye, that's the only difference - is honestly a lot of clinch work and you can kind of inside punch and stuff.
That's the only difference really. "I mean, ask me this in two and a half weeks, after the fight, and I've got no teeth and I've got a few cuts. Then there'll be a different story, but leading up it's just training for a boxing fight.
