No matter what family life looks like for you, the Diocese of Victoria plans to celebrate it June 14 at the El Campo Civic Center during the EPIC Family Gathering. This event takes the place of the traditional annual Catholic conference and is designed differently to demonstrate the benefit it can have for anyone and everyone who wants to dive a little deeper into their Catholic faith. The committee for the EPIC (engaging, practical, interactive and Catholic) event has been carefully crafting the events of the day to ensure that all people feel that they are a part of the Church that desires to bring them ever closer to the fellowship and communion that can be found within Her.
The keynote speaker for the day is Father David Michael Moses of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Moses is a young priest whose youthful energy attracts all ages. Father Moses’ session at the EPIC event is titled “Gen-Hope: God’s Blueprint for a Faithful Family.
” Through captivating stories, humor, music and video, he will explore the foundations of faithful family life. He states that, “This lively session aims to inspire families to cultivate a Christ-centered home. Expect laughter, heartfelt moments and practical insights that will encourage a deeper connection within families and with God.
” The day also will have breakout sessions and activities for children as well as adults and will be bilingual. “As we prepare for The EPIC Family Gathering, Bishop Cahill invites all families to mark their calendars to join in on this major diocesan family event. At the EPIC Family Gathering, we will celebrate ‘family,’” according to Christella Alvarez, director of the Office of Catechetical Ministry.
“There will be time for families to explore and engage in practical interactive events, which will reflect the value of Christian family life. Gathering as families of faith, there will be fun, fellowship, and lots of food.” The event begins at 8 a.
m. and continues to 3:30 p.m.
Registration has not yet open, but anyone interested should watch for future announcements in The Lighthouse and on Facebook and the Diocese of Victoria website victoriadiocese.org . “Today, most of us are pulled in many directions; there are many options, and many opportunities, which can be beneficial, and the EPIC Family Gathering is one such event,” Alvarez said.
