In these turbulent times, it’s nice to have a few things to depend on. One event you can set your watch (OK, your calendar) to is the annual coming of Generous Helpings , the culinary fundraiser for Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee that is perennially presented by Kroger . And sure enough, here it comes again, landing at Marathon Music Works on Wednesday, April 2.
The 21-plus event features grazing stations offering tastings from some of your favorite local restaurants along with craft beer and wine offerings. Your ticket includes valet parking, but ride sharing is always a good idea when people are handing you glasses of wine and beer whenever you walk by. Among the participating restaurants are (alphabetically): Blue Aster, Char, Cledis Burger, Coley’s Juke Joint, D’Andrews Bakery, Edley’s BBQ, Frankies, Goo Goo, Jasper’s, Jewish Cowboy, Kingdom Café & Grill, Pancho & Lefty’s, Steer Injera, Tall Tales, Tennessee Cobber Company, Thai Esane, The Pepper Pott, Tomkats and Waldo’s Chicken & Beer.
Second Harvest is an indispensable resource for Middle Tennessee, providing millions of pounds of donated and prepared food to a 46-county footprint and addressing issues of food insecurity in the region. Kroger has been a longtime partner in these efforts. “It’s a pleasure for us to once again be the presenting sponsor of Generous Helpings,” says Sonya Hostetler, division president at Kroger in the official event announcement.
“We have been privileged to work with Second Harvest for nearly 50 years and want to do what we can to support their work in addressing food insecurity among our neighbors. Our Zero Hunger, Zero Waste Plan reinforces our commitment to providing hunger relief by rescuing food that would otherwise be discarded and making sure it gets to organizations like Second Harvest to help feed our neighbors in need.” Proceeds from Generous Helpings specifically benefit Second Harvest’s grocery rescue program, which rescues frozen meat, produce, dairy and nonperishable food items from more than 300 grocery stores.
Mark your calendar for April 2 and take part in this important fundraiser for a critical organization. The event will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
