Generals, Altas reach NCAA men's beach volleyball semis

SUBIC BAY, Zambales — The Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Generals and defending men's division champion University of Perpetual Help Altas finished the preliminary round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 100 beach volleyball tournament as 1 and 2 in the team standings on Saturday at the Subic Bay Sand Court here.EAC will face San Beda University while Perpetual Help will go up against St. Benilde in the semifinal round. Both carrying the twice-to-beat advantage in the final four, the Generals and Altas only need to win once against their respective opponents to enter the championship match. EAC of Jan Abor, Kenneth Bantiancila and Paul Say defeated the Perpetual Help team of Jeff Marapoc, Dexter Arrozado and Klint Mateo, 19-21, 21-19, 15-13 in the final game of the elimination round.Altas coach Macky Cariño, however, is optimistic that the Las Piñas City-based sand tossers will make it to the finals for third straight season and defend their crown.
