The Generalitat Valenciana has canceled a production of Mozart’s “Così fan tutte” which was set to take place in May.The production was set to be performed in Valencia, Buñol, Alicante, and Castellón.The opera was set to be performed during the period when Valencia experienced historic flooding and was postponed for May.
The production will not be rescheduled, nor will it compensate the artists who were set to perform.According to Platea Magazine, the ALE, the union for Spanish opera singers, said, “after several days of rehearsals and with the contracts already signed,” there is “a serious violation of the labor rights of the artists involved and a further example of the institutional lack of respect for our profession.” Additionally, the ALE noted that teh artists were informed of the cancellation by an anonymous e-mail.
