Excelsior CorrespondentJAMMU, Apr 13: The 241st birth anniversary of General Zorawar Singh, hailed as the “Napoleon of India,” was observed with great respect and enthusiasm at Gen Zorawar Chowk, Bahu Plaza today.The event was organised by the J&K Ex-Services League (JKESL) under the leadership of its President, Lt Gen Rakesh Kumar Sharma (Retd), with support from the Indian Army.A ceremonial guard from 19 JAK Rif presented tribute with full military honours, while Lt Col OS Chouhan, Secretary JKESL, narrated the tales of General Zorawar Singh’s bravery.
People from all walks of life, including serving Army personnel, veterans, police, civil administration, students, NCC cadets, Bharat Scouts & Guides, and members of social organisations participated in the event to honour the legendary warrior.The function was graced by several dignitaries, including Minister Satish Sharma as Chief Guest and senior Army officers and prominent citizens as special invitees.Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Rakesh Kumar Sharma described Gen Zorawar Singh as one of India’s greatest military commanders, known for his mastery in mountain warfare, strategic planning, and leadership.
He emphasised the General’s qualities of integrity, discipline, and devotion to duty, calling him a true “soldier’s soldier.”He also appealed to the Government to introduce Jammu and Kashmir’s history as a separate chapter in school textbooks and proposed renaming JDA Park at Zorawar Chowk as Gen Zorawar Park.He further suggested renaming Chhanni Himmat area as Zorawar Nagar in tribute to the legendary general.
