On April 3, Aditi Yadav was seen for the first time inside Indian Parliament with her mother, Dimple Yadav, the sitting Samajwadi Party MP from Mainpuri. Speculation is rife that Aditi Yadav, granddaughter of Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and daughter of former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, might soon make her political debut. On April 3, Aditi Yadav was seen for the first time inside Indian Parliament with her mother, Dimple Yadav, the sitting Samajwadi Party MP from Mainpuri.
The appearance of the mother-daughter duo in Parliament created quite a stir in Uttar Pradesh’s (UP) political circles and beyond, raising questions about whether Aditi is poised to start her political career. While the party has not made any formal announcements, insiders suggest that the 22-year-old could make her electoral debut in the 2029 Lok Sabha polls, should she choose to enter active politics. Who is Aditi Yadav? Aditi Yadav is the eldest of Akhilesh and Dimple Yadav’s three children.
She has twin younger siblings, Tina and Arjun. Aditi completed her schooling at La Martiniere Girls’ College in Lucknow, scoring an impressive 98% in her Class 12 board exams in 2020. She is currently pursuing Politics and International Relations at University College London (UCL), one of the world’s top institutions.
In addition to academics, Aditi is an accomplished equestrian, having participated in and won medals at national-level horse-riding championships. She is also a badminton enthusiast. By all accounts, she combines academic excellence, sporting prowess, and quiet confidence.
Political Grooming Aditi’s political visibility began in December 2022, during the Mainpuri Lok Sabha by-election, held following the demise of her grandfather, Mulayam Singh Yadav. Her mother, Dimple Yadav, was fielded as the SP candidate. Aditi campaigned extensively, meeting voters door-to-door and engaging with women in villages with grace and determination.
Her presence grew more pronounced during the recently concluded 2024 Lok Sabha elections. On March 20, she was seen with her mother in Sultanpur, sitting among rural women and quietly observing campaign proceedings. On April 15, during a ‘nukkad sabha’ (street meeting), she was seen helping her mother with speech notes, occasionally glancing at the crowd.
What Her Parents Say On her potential entry into politics, her father and former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said in a recent interview, “Beti ko politics ka pata hona chahiye. Humne mana nahi kiya. Usey gaon gaon jaane ki chhoot di hai.
Logon se milke unka dard samjhe, yeh zaroori hai. (My daughter should know what politics is. We haven’t stopped her.
She’s free to visit villages and understand people’s pain.)" He emphasised that all three of his children – Aditi, Tina, and Arjun – are being given the freedom to understand public life. He added, “ Gen Z ko politics samajhna zaroori hai.
Main unko waqt deta hoon, unhe guide karta hoon . (GenZ must understand politics. I give them time, guide them).
" Similarly, Dimple Yadav, known for her dignified presence in Parliament, also believes in letting Aditi find her own path. Speaking during a media interaction amid the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, she said, “Aditi is not just campaigning for me; she is reconnecting with her roots. She’s spending time with people, understanding their issues.
" When asked about Aditi’s political future, Dimple replied, “She is free to make her own choices. I’ve always supported my children in what they want to pursue." What UP’s Political Expert Says Shashikant Pandey, Head of the Department of Political Science at Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, sees Aditi’s emergence as part of a larger generational shift within political dynasties.
“Aditi Yadav’s growing presence reflects a soft but strategic attempt by the Samajwadi Party to introduce its third generation. Though at present she may not yet be in a position to contest elections due to her age, her increasing involvement is a calculated move to create familiarity and relatability with younger and first-time voters," said Pandey. However, he noted that unlike the flamboyant launches often seen in other parties, the SP is playing the long game – letting her learn the ropes slowly, building an emotional connection with voters, and observing the ground reality.
This approach works well in rural UP, where gradual credibility often trumps charisma. What Lies Ahead Due to constitutional limitations, Aditi cannot contest elections until she turns 25. That rules her out from contesting the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, when she will be around 24 and a half years old.
However, by the time the 2029 Lok Sabha elections arrive, she will be eligible, and perhaps by then, well-prepared. Until then, party sources indicate that Aditi could be given organisational responsibilities within the SP youth wing or entrusted with a social outreach role, particularly aimed at women and young voters. Whether or not she formally enters politics soon, Aditi’s calm, measured and graceful public appearances are already making waves.
