GB News presenters Ellie Costello and Stephen Dixon were not impressed as the show was halted for "breaking news".

GB News was interrupted by a breaking news announcement about the Labour Party's latest reaction to President Donald Trump 's tariffs. Foreign Secretary David Lammy insists they will "put all options on the table, but we will act in the national interest," which prompted a mixed reaction from hosts Ellie Costello and Stephen Dixon. President Trump's sweeping global tariffs wiped trillions from global stock markets as the Prime Minister was urged by business leaders not to retaliate.

Stephen Dixon sighed and said, "I don't know what to make of that." Ellie Costello said, "It's the same rhetoric, isn't it?" Stephen said, "If there's a possibility of a deal on the table, why don't they just say it?" which prompted Ellie to say, "They're stalling for time, aren't they?" It comes after President Trump’s 'Liberation Day' global tariffs wiped $2.4 trillion from the S&P 500, which suffered its biggest one-day loss since March 2020.

The President imposed a new 10 percent tariff on UK goods, and today, the Labour government is considering its response to Donald Trump 's tariffs. According to trade secretary Jonathan Reynolds, there is unlikely to be an immediate response. Meanwhile, Trump has claimed that Sir Keir Starmer “was very happy” with the sweeping new tariffs on the UK.

On Thursday, Sir Keir Starmer said the world was beginning a “new economic era” following the tariffs. The Prime Minister said: “It is the beginning of a new era; we need to understand that, just as we have for defense and security, we have to understand the changing world when it comes to trade and the economy." Meanwhile, Trump's tariffs have received backlash from within conservative circles, as several GOP senators, including former Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, have sided with the Democrats, condemning Trump's trade action.
